HIV Education
DOH-Manatee offers a variety of HIV education courses, both for individuals who wish to become certified HIV counselors and for the general public.
- Courses required of certified HIV counselors
HIV 500/501
This 3-day course surveys the issues and concerns that accompany HIV counseling and testing. Topics include, but are not limited to, in-depth coverage of disease and viral evolution, treatment, drug resistance, testing, reporting, surveillance, transmission, prevention, legal and societal issues, client-centered counseling techniques, skills to assist clients in developing personalized risk-reduction plans, lab form completion, OraSure testing procedure, and post-test counseling.
HIV/AIDS 501 Update
A 2-hour annual course update required for counselors to retain certification. Topics include: recent advances in treatment, prevention methods, surveillance, and legal concerns.

Adolescent Classes
HIV informational course focused on prevention. Approved by the Manatee County School Board.
Adult Classes
HIV informational course available in English and Spanish. Classes are tailored for specific interest and content if sufficient notice is given.
